Daniel asks…

Is it possible for green jade stone to turn black?

I have a jade pendant (medium green color--the color you often find described as "jade green") that I've had for about 10 years. The other day I looked at it and the stone has completely turned black. The silver around the stone has not turned black and is still shiny and looks fine.

The last time I wore it was maybe 3-4 weeks ago, and it was its normal color then. I do not recall exposing it to anything unusual like heat or chemicals, but I guess it's possible.

I have searched on the internet but haven't found anything helpful. I even wondered if it's possible it's not jade but some other green stone, like agate.

Any ideas? What could make this stone turn black after years of being green?

I don't believe that "real" stones would do that either. Check with SNAG - Society of North American Goldsmiths, http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/, you can ask questions from these very knowledgeable metalsmiths who use stones ALL the time. SAS - http://www.silversmithing.com/.
Or, check this site out on gemstones... Http://www.preciousgemstones.com/.
'Hope you find an answer.

Nancy asks…

What is this "aoer stone"?

A particular company is offering two types of beads called "aoer stone". You can find it here: http://www.jewelrybeadsandfindings.com/158593.html or here: http://www.jewelrybeadsandfindings.com/158592.html
I can't find any mention of it in Google other than in these two formats. Plenty of beading artists are using this name, but it doesn't appear on geology.com or any other geological website.
I don't think this is a real stone - but what does that means this "aoer" stone is? (Looks like a variety of agate to me, but I'm no geologist.)

Just a quick question, "How many of you carry a small bag of stones, such as garnet, agates, obsidian &???

And perhaps myriad other types or good luck charm as in a small Pouch?????What stones are they and if you care to explain why those, then indeed do!!!!!
Thanks in Advance!!!!
I ask this as each stone carries with it certain vibrations and meanings....such as snowflake obsidian is known as the writer's rock, many reasons for carrying them predominantly in the west though I have found......but you can see where I am coming from now.....
