How do I break petrified wood?
I have a 65 pound chunk of nice translucent agate about 12 x 14 x 10 inches. I have a 12 inch rock saw. I have tried breaking it with a 10 pound hammer and was able to get a pint of pieces. I don't want to shatter it, just break it enough to get in my saw.

My first thought: Frighten it !!
If it is true petrified wood that means it is rock. You will need a diamond wet saw. If the stump is large you may need to have someone with a large diamond saw like those that cut granite for counter tops do the job.
