Lisa asks…

which precious stones are abundantly available in India?

I know quartz and agate are plenty in India. what are the other stones?
thank you for the answer. I would like to know the abundantly available semiprecious stones in India

admin answers:

First of all, agate is a form of quartz. Second, they are not precious. Precious stones are diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, and rubies. Everything else is semi-precious. But they can still have value.

Many stones in India. Many come to India from other places. As for precious stones, only ruby comes from India, but usually poor quality stones.

Crater of diamonds questions?

I was wondering what all different natural stones can be found there. Aside from diamonds of course, I know you can find amethyst, garnet, jasper, agate, and quartz. I haven't been able to find out what "all" of the different stones are. All I keep reading are those above and then it just says, "and many more." Plus, for all those who have been there, is there anything you'd like to share with me and those who read this that are planning a trip there. We will be staying there a week.
I'm sorry. I just firgured that if you had been to the cater of diamonds then you would know what I was talking about. We are going to the crater of diamonds in Murfreesburro in Arkansas. But for those who have not been then you can research it such as I have and maybe you will have better results. So, I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. Thanks.

The field guide for Rocks and Mineral of North America is a very good resource for this topic!

Joseph asks…

Do you know your gemstones?

I have a large collection. A lot of these stones i only know are Jasper and Agate...but as to what types of Jasper and agate I haven't a clue.

I have searched the web, and unless I spend hundreds of hours stuck in front of the PC looking though pic after pic I am never gonna be able to name any of these stones.

What I am looking for is someone I can give one of my e-mail addresses to, send pics and see if you can name these stones for me.
This would save me so much time and energy. The internet just isn't helping. This is my last stand. Can't find help here then I am with a few dozen nameless pieces.

admin answers:

I know exactly how you feel! Especially since there are SO many types of jaspers, and agates...I have been doing a lot of research for that exact reason, and while I may not be able to help with every single one, hopefully I can identify at least some of them for you. Feel free to mail me if you wish. Hopefully if thee are some I can't identify, someone else will be able to!

Dragon quest Ix - Need help for the last few alchemies for each category - doesn't seem possible to make.?

For example i want to make a gringham whip and it appears you need a giga gringham whip and assume that i have other ingredients so i don't need to worry about them except the whip. So first i had to make a giga gringham whip first but it appears to need a mega gringham whip but to make that i need a gringham whip????? How am I suppose to make gringham whips when i found out it goes around in a cycle and cannot acquire each of them. This is same as the season hats e.g spring breeze hats - you need other season hats to make it but you cannot acquire either of them. It seems to be only the last few recipes that appear in each catagory. Here's an example for the gringham whip:

Gringham whip
= Giga Gringham whip x 1 + Reset stone x 1
Giga Gringham whip
= Mega Gringham whip x 1 + Agate of evolution x 3 + Green orb x 3
Mega Gringham whip
= Gringham whip x 1 + Agate of evolution x 1 + Green orb x 1

Has anyone created these items? Or what do i need to do to make these items?

(this is all according to the Japanese version)

first of all, when you attempt to make the best weapon, it's not going to work 100%. The probability can change from 10% to 50%, depending on your main character's stats. Also, you will be forced to save when you attempt this, so you can't keep reseting until you get the best weapon. When you fail to make the best weapon, you will get the 2nd best weapon. But if you want to try to attempt getting the best weapon again, you can use the Reset Stone to get the original weapon you had so you can start over.

I've succeeded maybe 7 times by luck, 3 times by using a bug in the game. But lemme say this - even if the probability is 50%, don't be surprised if you fail 3 times in a row, which happened to me. Regarding the bug, I'll give you the details, but note that although this works for the Japanese version, I don't know about the US version. Anyhow, the details are:

when you power on the game, you will see 3 icons of slimes during the loadup. When the icons are 1 blue slime, 1 blue slime, and 1 red slime, the probability of using the alchemy to get the best weapon will be 100% up to 3 times.

The probability to get these icons is very low - you have to turn your DS on and off dozens, if not 100s of times. It's bad for your DS, so I strongly advise against doing it - it's not worth messing up your DS for an item you don't really need. I emphasize again, this is all for the JAPANESE version, I don't know about the US version. Try it at your own risk.

Finally, to get a gringham whip or any of the other weapons or armor, you can only retrieve them in a dungeon. In Japan, people share the maps where you can get a specific weapon 100% from a treasure chest if you wait a certain # of seconds before you open it. I know, it sounds stupid, but it works 100%, so it's worth it. Just a lot of hassle. Once again, this is for the Japanese version - I hope they made it easier for the US version.

admin answers:

You are certainly off to a good start. I do not know if you have a good book on the subject or not, but that would be a good "next step". You would want to learn more about the specimens in your collection and what else is out there. I suggest that you visit amazon.com to see what type of books are available. Try entering "rocks and minerals" or "minerals gems and rocks" into the search field. You will get lots of interesting books and customer reviews (which I have found to be very helpful).

As to the topic of extending your collection, right now you should obtain what ever you like and can afford. There are 1000's of mineral, 1000's of different kinds of rocks and millions of fossils out there. Later, as your collection grows and your storage space becomes limited, you may want to consider specializing in one particular area, but right now, be sure to have fun with it.

In obtaining new specimens you should be very careful. For example, there are a lot of fake fossils on the market and they look very real. Also, you need to "shop around" for the best deals. Just as an example, I have a crystal cluster of the mineral adamite that I paid $20. At the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show (last month) I saw a similar specimen that had a price tag of $350 on it !! It really is a buyer beware market.

You could also consider joining one of the Yahoo groups that specialize in collecting and trading rocks, minerals and fossils. I am sure some people would just send you some specimens for free.

Good luck with your Geology career... I have been happy with mine for 30+ years.

Btw, your #26 is spelled Andalusite. (no "v")
