How to determine semi precious stones and rocks?

I have several semi precious stones, most relating to chakra but I also have other stones. I have tried looking on the internet for a place to see how I can determine what they are. Any ides?

admin answers:

First, do NOT NOT NOT!! Rely on color. Go online and look up the Earth Science Reference Tables, or ESRT. On the last page there is a mineral list, and in the middle of the ESRT there are three charts identifying common sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.

Now, if they are minerals, use a unglazed ceramic tile to test streak. Then, examine it. If it breaks in a pattern, it has cleavage. If not, it has fracture. Then, take your fingernail. Can it scratch it? If so, it has a hardness of 2.5 or less. Now, take a penny. If is scratches the penny, then it is 3.5 or more. If it scratches glass, it is 5.5 or more.

Now look at your rocks. If there are gas pockets, is smooth like glass, or has large, intergrown crystals, you have an igneous rock. Now, if it has banding, or foliation, it is metamorphic. (High pressure underground causes minerals of like densities to band together) Lastly, if it has fossils or shells or particles embedded into it, or it feels like sand, it is sedimentary.

Now, armed with this information, go research a mineral identification site and you will find out what you have! Trust me, i've done it before. 🙂 I had amethyst and limestone.

I have a number of semi-precious stones and I would like to know what they are. Where/how to find out?

I have a collection of miscellaneous semi-precious stones but I can only clearly identify a few of them. Can someone point me to a (preferably comprehensive) resource with pictures that can help me? I've looked a little bit on Google but all I could find were either descriptions without photos or websites about jewelry stuff.

The site below has links on the lefthand side that describe each semi-precious stone. On the page for each stone there are pictures of the stones so they can be identified. Unfortunately there isn't a main page with all images together so you'll need to look through them.

Is it true that semi precious and precious stones have healing powers?

Is it true that semi precious and precious stones have healing powers?
There are many books about this which tell you what to do and how to use the stones etc. But is there an element of truth in this because I don't want to invest a lot of my time (and some of my money) in this for it to turn out to be useless.
Also they say to 'channel' your crystal by saying out loud what you want it to do and creating a vision of this, but doesn't that sound a bit easy? And what different would it make if you say it or think it?

admin answers:

Absolutely. And I will prove it. And I just happen to be having a sale. Normally $130, just send me $45.98 and I'll send you my book on the power of rocks. AND, for a limited time, I'll include a free ticket to see me live, in person at one of my seminars for gullable hippies who didn't pay attention in class back in school.

Question is: How far did YOU get before you realized I was pulling your leg here.
