Nancy asks…

What are Joseph’s possible remedies and Why?

Joseph goes to the pawn shop and he sees a rich red colored gemstone ring. Joseph has dabbled in the study of precious stones. The shopper keeper told Joseph that the gemstone was garnet, but Joseph believed it to be actually a Ruby worth vastly more than the price listed in the pawn shop. So Joseph immediately purchases the gemstone, believing it was a ruby. A week later, during an appraisal, the appraiser told Joseph that he did not purchase a ruby but actually a garnet. What are Joseph’s possible remedies and Why?

Charles asks…

Is the warning not to 'cast your pearls before swine' in Matthew 7:6 a reference to masturbation?

Do not cast your pearls before swine, or the swine may trample them under foot, and then turn on you and tear you to pieces.

- Matthew 7:6

QUESTION: Is the warning not to 'cast your pearls before swine' (Matthew 7:6) a reference to masturbation and ejaculation?

I remember hearing from more than a few people that a certain passage in the Gospels (Matthew 7:6) has Jesus condemning masturbation and ejaculation, but refers to this traditionally sinful practice in a metaphorical way by way of unclean things such as pigs and oysters (pearls). However, on the internet I have yet to find any documentation to this which I believe to be true. Why? Because there seems to be no other explanation for Christ's use of the term pearls (a precious stone taken from oysters which are never supposed to touch) being thrown or cast into the air (like globs of ejaculate). Even more intriguing is the use of the word swine which I am fairly sure were not allowed to be kept in the Holy Lands, except during the Age of the Maccabees, where it helped to spark a rebellion which led to Civil War. This double reference to two obviously un-kosher, despicable things like pigs and oysters seems to imply he isn't just talking about proverbs, parables, and other 'pearls of wisdom'. In fact, the entire English tradition of equating 'pearls' with wisdom, wise sayings, and related folk-lore, ORIGINATES from this very passage (Matthew 7:6), so this modern understanding proves nothing at all. I have also heard that other languages do not have the same cultural viewpoint of pearls as being symbolic of wisdom or intelligence and this includes Israeli Jews today. Anyway, here are two additional versions of the same passage which I truly believe to be a direct reference and condemnation of masturbation by Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospels:

Do not throw your pearls in front of pigs, lest the pigs trample them under their feet, and the dogs turn and tear you to pieces.

- Matthew 7:6

Do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

- Matthew 7:6

John asks…

I have a necklace and a semi precious stone/crystal they look similiar ut what are they called?

I have started studying how crystals and stones can heal people and i have a crystal like maybe a stone:
its pinky whitey and its jaggered i also have a heart shaped necklace £30 from debenhams which is very smooth and nicley shaped and looks similiar but seems a bit darker but what are they called?

admin answers:

It is rose quartz which is a silicon stone and very pretty and as it occurs in may parts of the world is not that expensive. It is said to have healing properties. Quartz occurs in many colours from a deep brown (smoky quartz) to clear rock crystal. The latter was used to make lenses it was so clear. The Americans are very interested in gem stones and mineral crystals and have produced some good books

Maria asks…

Is sponge coral valuable ? Or is pink coral more expensive ?

I like buying various semi precious and precious stones etc set into jewelry.
I want to buy a piece of jewelry with real coral , but on a moderate budget.
Is sponge coral valuable if i buy it? Ir should i spend a bit more and buy a smaller piece of baby pink / angelskin coral ?

admin answers:

In a capitalist system, items are priced according to supply and demand. This would mean that you can judge the relative values of the two corals simply by comparing the prices in a jewelery store - the more expensive one is the more valuable due to less supply and/or greater demand.

Incidentally, coral is not a stone. Coral is a living organism, and coral jewelery is made by killing the organism. I would not buy coral jewlery for this reason.

Would you also buy jewelery made from ivory obtained by killing whales or elephants? Perhaps you should consider the cost in destruction of nature that goes into the jewelery you desire - and stick to minerals that are mined in an ecologically safe manner in conflict free locations.
