question about craft fayres and selling semi precious jewellery?

im a jeweller and i do alot of craft shows and this year for the christmas period im trying something new out. basically because i use semi precious stone alot of people believe that they hold special healing propertys. im not particually interested in this side of stones i just like the texture and colours but i what iv done is iv written a long list of particular stones and what they may heal/cure and put them in a folder which will be on the stall for people to browse thru .but im alittle unsure of what to put at the front in terms of letting people know that its widely thought that these gems can heal but im not guaranteeing it im just giving them an opportunity to feel like there helping themselves
does that make sense ?
id just like an idea of what to write that wont make it sound like i have extra special super stones

sorry if this is hard to understand

Ken asks…

Is moissanite a semi-precious stone?

I've seen it listed as a semi-precious stone but I believe it's man-made.

admin answers:

When moissanite was discovered, there was not even enough of it to make one gemstone. So yes, all moissanite you find is lab created, and yes it is a semi-precious stone.

James asks…

What are the meanings behind the different precious stone/wood malas?

I've read somewhere that the different materials that malas can be made out of have different meanings or certain powers, can someone give me a list of what each precious stone or bodhi wood beads mean ?
i know that tiger-eye beads are supposed to bring protection on one's travels.
anyone know other bead meanings ?
malas are buddhist prayer beads.
i believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, therefore they are entitled to their own religion.
i'd appreciate it if people didn't try and shove their religion down my throat.

Robert asks…

How reliable is it to buy gemstones off EBay?

Is it worth buying gemstones like ruby, sapphires and emeralds from eBay? Some of the precious stones are priced to start at USD0.01! Is something wrong with them? Otherwise I'm surprised why people are not bidding on them the moment they're listed! I'm actually keen on getting a set of stones for myself actually.

admin answers:

If you are buying them just for fun, then I don't see any harm in bidding and taking a gamble! Maybe you just want them for samples or for a craft project? I think that's ok! But if you are buying to have them set into jewelry, I think you'd be better off at a real shop!

Most of these $0.01 auctions are for gemstones that are REAL gemstones. They are cheap because they are low quality. Maybe they have a poor color or a bad cut or are full of inclusions. They are very often tiny little stones too! Where I live, it is not unusual to be able to buy a lot of 10 6x4mm clean red garnets for about 100baht (US$3) at retail. The price goes down if you buy in wholesale quantities, so I'm sure these ebay sellers have got much lower cost prices!

Sometimes, you may get a different gemstone either because the seller can't tell them apart or is out to deceive you. For instance, you may have won the bid for a ruby, but may get a garnet or a tourmaline instead. My own experience? I've been sent Glass, Calcite and Quartz in place of Jade. (To be fair, most of my purchases have been perfect! Just a few bad hats here and there...)

How do they make money? Usually from "collateral" purchases and S/H costs. S/H could be $10 for one stone or ten. So chances are you'd bid on more items and some may cost a bit more than a few dollars. Add in a slightly inflated S/H, and the seller actually makes money!
