Getting Money for old jewelry with precious stones in it? Told not to go to the "Cash 4 Gold" people?

I have some old jewelry of my mothers that I want to get rid of. They have emeralds, small diamonds, a ruby, etc.

I read somewhere that going to the Cash 4 Gold places was a bad idea if the jewelry has precious gems in it...

What is the best way to make some cash off my old jewelry?

I buy and sell gold for a living. Cash for gold is an OK way to sell your gold and they do pay OK money. However, why not go to a pawn shop and support the local economy?? They will pay you just as much if not more, and you will get your money today not in 2 weeks or more. With cash for gold you are selling to some stranger who is making hundreds of thousands of dollars every week. Support small business.

No offense hon, but the stones are almost completely worthless. Diamond chips are worthless, and 80% of birth stones are man made junk. Even if you have a genuine natural emrald its not worth very much at all. I suggest you take some pliers and pop the stones out and keep them yourself. Thats what the pawn shop is going to do anyway.

Cash for gold WILL scratch your jewelry and leave a small mark on it. They may also burn it with acid, so if you dont like their price your stuck with a scratched or burnt ring with no monies.

Also, cash for gold is only interested in gold. If you bought a diamond ring from a jewelry store who ripped you off selling you a 1/4carat diamond with 2.5g 14k gold for $900, cash for gold would offer you $35 for it. How nice. A pawn shop would give you more

Support small business whether its with your gold, pizza, watch or anything els. Its often cheaper and you get more info on your product. Buying an Ipod from walmart you wontk now the first thing about it. A pawn broker will tell you every single thing about it

Good luck and God bless

Can anyone tell me of any semi precious stones or gems that I can find in Southern New Hampshire?

I have developed an interest in stones and gems and I wanted to know if there was any hope for me finding any in New Hampshire. Also if you could give me some weblinks to sites on stones and gems, where they can be found, and how much they are worth. I thank you for your help.

Tourmaline and topaz and quartzites like citrine and amethyst can be found in some N.H. Pegamite formations but the good places to seek are all either mined out leaving only small samples remaining or are "pay to dig" mines. Merrimac, Rockingham, Cheshire, and Hillsborough counties all have documented gemstone districts..
Glacially deposited gold can be found in many parts of the state as successive ice ages left deposits. One location for placer gold would be the Ashuelot river and it's tributaries. Look for and examine pieces of white quartz for gold inclusions as well as placer gold deposits.

Panning for gold is a great hobby with almost no environmental impact.

N.H. Is also a great place to metal detect for coins and artifacts.

I have precious stones and gems, possibly a sapphire. Where can i get this valued/sold in Sydney?

My dad was a diamond polisher in Barbados before migrating to Australia. I have these stones wth me, i don't know if they worth alot and i don't know exatly what all of these types of stones or gems are. They are raw, uncut.

admin answers:

I would take them to a RESPECTED jeweller. (Unfortunately I am in Bris so I don't know the best stores in Sydney) If the jewellery store deals with a lot of expensive jewellery and stones then I would trust them more than a smaller, less expensive jewellery store.

Muslims is it right to believe in precious stones, and wearing them in rings and pendants?

Do you think it is correct, that you should wear a stone in a pendant around your neck, thinking it will benefit you and bring you good luck. Or for any other reasons for example it will prevent harm, or control your anger.

Does Islam permit this?

admin answers:

No. It's the worst sin - shirk. Because you are placing your trust on an object that can not benefit you when you should only be placing your trust in Allah (swt). You can wear something around your neck if it's not there to protect you or bring you good luck - basically if you're wearing it because you like it and only because of that. Objects don't have any power and can not help you in any way, so why would you rely on them?

So the answer is no, Islam does not permit this.
