James asks…

How would I safely hire a long-haul driver to get me and a U-Haul from California to St. Louis?

I thought I could move by sending things ahead by UPS and like that, but it just looks less and less feasible all the time. And it's a lot to ask of a friend to drive some 2,138 miles (according to Yahoo Maps) just to schlep a crone and the things she does not want to leave behind. I've been a pack rat married to a pack rat who (the rat!) committed suicide and left me holding the pack. Some 30 years of it. He did his best, and we did winnow it down some over the years as we moved, but you would be amazed at what we moved.

I'm willing to do the work of separating the diamonds from the debris, but there are diamonds (well, OK; semi-precious stones; but metaphorically, you know?) in that slush pile. So what do I do with them? Unlike literal diamonds, which are precious as much because they are so compactly rare and precious and portable, this stuff is gonna need a truck.
Some nice answers here, but apuleuis, please understand that if I had a friend who had a driver's license who was eager to make such a trip -- indeed, even willing to make such a trip -- of course I would pay for their plane fare home. But I do not have such a friend.

As to the dear little Christian who offered her personal help, you are a credit to your religion, Kitten, but we would drive each other totally nuts on the subject of religion before we got halfway across.

~I would be happy to help you out - or, at the very least, I'll do what I can! And, I have a CDL license. 🙂 Feel free to e-mail me!
(I am/was a pack rat myself...) 😉

Steven asks…

Why is the western world wealthier than the rest of the world?

Most of the east of the world is fertile land so food should be plentiful, and isn't food the biggest commodity, the middle east has oil and Africa has precious stones.the rest of the world has worked just as hard and had an education sytem the predess'sthe western education system?

So what is it?

admin answers:

Having resources at hand and controlling resources aren't necessarily the same thing. The western world controls most of the oil/diamonds etc that exists in other area's of the world through political, military, or monetary means. Regardless of whether or not it's right, the western world controls most of the infrastructure and therefor the commodities that pass through the infrastructure.

David asks…

What does it mean when a man wears a ring on his right ring finger?

I know the left ring finger is where wedding rings are worn, but if a man wears a ring with a precious stone on his right ring, does that signify anything?

admin answers:

I could just mean he has a ring that he likes, or that was a gift, and since it's not his wedding band, he wears it on his right hand.

I gave my fiance a ring several years ago, and he wears it on his right hand.

Ruth asks…

Why do people in the US army wear some kind of ring?

Why do those militants wear a ring, some-kind of gold ring with precious stones on it? And why do they wear in on their right hand, fourth finger? Many thanks! Also what does it symbolize?

admin answers:

Could be a class ring from an academy or basic training. Most soldiers don't bother with such crap. I've actually only ever seen one person wearing a ring other than a wedding ring, and that was a West Point ring.
