Sharon asks…

where/how do i sell crystals/semi precious stones?

tormaline/aqua marine/silver topaz/agate

admin answers:

If you have a fair amount of material, rock and gem shows are good outlets, as well as places to make sales contacts. Local fairs and farmers markets can also provide sales opportunities. You could try offering your wares to local jewelry craftspeople. Then there's eBay, ads in rockhound magazines, a web site, etc.

Laura asks…

Will you read my poem about a story?

It was going to be about
a kid, a boy, around 10 or 11
years old, an only child, who lived near the woods,
was a nerd, got bullied a lot, and lived with an uncaring mother
and an overbearing father.
This kid spends a lot of time in the forest
by himself
building forts
and treasure hunting.
He collected things he found interesting; petrified wood,
old iron parts from farm equipment, weathered magazines,
sticks, agates, and bones.
One day he finds a scattering of small bone fragments.
He gathers them and brings them back to his room.
He starts to piece them together. Every
day he goes back and finds more, digging
in the same area, searching for similar bone pieces.
After many months and many hours
with a flashlight
in his room
before bed
he starts to assemble the puzzle and
finds out it is
a skull.
Anyway, the story would go on, he builds
this skull from all the pieces he finds
and realizes the back of the skull
has a bullet hole.
He also, during this time, continues to question
his drunken mother
and abusive father
about his brother
who died at the age
of three
but he was never told
how.
The story would also
describe how the boy felt
as he assembled the skull.
Maybe he would ask his father
if he killed
his brother.
Maybe he would do something more
sinister.
Or, he would bring the skull to school
and open up that whole can of worms.
It was going to be about a skull,
but it never happened
and now I think about the woods where he found it
and wonder if he still goes there
and if it held the same magic
it once did.
It was going to be a story.
It isn't.
Dude! Sweet!

Astonishing impact! I was literally spellbound. I love how quietly, almost casually, you tender the images. That they deconstruct themselves, then reconstruct and amalgamate into such a powerful story is amazing. I was anxious when the boy began to gather the bone fragments, sensing their profound relevance. Excellent, as I am certain you already know...(smiles)

Helen asks…

Can you identify these rocks for me, please?

So I have been collecting these rocks for years and years. I have been calling them agates. I thought they were, but it turns out they aren't. They are clear, kind of translucent rocks that catch my eye on the side of the road. They can come in all different colors, but still have the same translucent color.I'll be walking and see it stand out against the others. I have some pictures on this website. Please scroll down to the bottom and look at the pictures. I don't know if the rocks are special but badly want to know their name. ( Don't look at the other things along the website. I made it a longggg time ago. Now I just use it to put up pictures I ask about, such as these pictures)

I guess they are more considered stones than rocks.
