Agates, Petrified wood, Jasper. Oregon

Collection of agates, petrified wood, and jasper from the Willamette River basin. These stones were collected over a year long period. between spring 2011 and spring 2012. Some days you find just a few and other days you can't look down without seeing something cool. You never know what you'll find out on the rivers. Huntin' for stones is the fun part, next they're headed for the saw or the tumbler. Remember, if you're outside huntin' rocks or hikin', be cool. Be respectful, have some fun.

Agate Mortar and Pestle

Virtually unchanged since the stone age, the mortar and pestle is probably the oldest of all laboratory tools, helping ancient healers unleash the curing properties in plants. This mortar and pestle is made of a stunning translucent blue-gray agate. In addition to being gorgeous, agate is the finest natural material available for a grinding surface. It is virtually non-porous, so bacteria and contaminants are unable to lodge on the surface. Agate mortar and pestles are used for laboratory work where cross contamination must be avoided at all cost, and in fine kitchens grinding herbs and spices for the same reason.
